Actor Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, producer Susan Downey, are making a documentary series on artificial intelligence on YouTube, the company announced today. The series will have eight episodes each of an hour and will be broadcast next year on the YouTube Network platform based on paid membership.
The series has no title yet, but we do know that Robert Downey Jr. will host and narrate the series, which will feature scientists, philosophers and other AI experts. YouTube says the series will explore how AI transforms the way we work and live in the present and in the future. The series will be executive produced by The Downeys through its production company Team Downey.
"Robert and I share a curiosity about artificial intelligence, a complicated and often polarizing subject," Susan Downey said in a statement. "Our goal is to explore artificial intelligence through a lens of objectivity and accessibility, in a bold, striking and entertaining way."
It is not the first time that Iron Man and Avengers star has expressed an interest in pioneering technology. According to a chapter in the recent biography of Elon Musk, during the production of Iron Man that kicked off the game of tech billionaire Tony Stark from Downey Jr., he requested that a Tesla Roadster be placed on the interior The Stark workshop to demonstrate the character's technological prowess and foresight. And in 2016, Downey Jr. jokingly offered the personal assistant of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, based on artificial intelligence, that the executive wanted to build in his own home.
