Best wireless headphones 2018: our pick of the best ways to cut the cord

Best wireless headphones (Bluetooth): Welcome to the TechRadar guide on the best wireless and Bluetooth headsets you can buy in 2018.

Technology is innovated almost every day. A technology that grew two, three, four or more decades probably no longer exists or has improved drastically.

Take the headphones, for example.

Years ago, the only option was traditional cable or over-the-ear cans. But as technology improves, hearing aids reach the market and soon the most important names in audio weave Bluetooth wireless technology into their most popular products.

Currently, Bluetooth wireless technology has improved to allow the transmission of high resolution audio and improved batteries to allow you to get several days of use of a pair of headphones without having to charge them.

We have entered the golden age of wireless technology.

Love them or offer them, the cordless headsets are here to stay and the high-end telephone headphone jack is removed like the iPhone X and Pixel 2 pes and sizes, from elegant ready-to-wear in-ear headphones to shock absorbers with noise damping the ear, and each one offers more features and better connectivity options than your old wired headphones.

Can not decide which headphones to buy? Check out our video guide below.

Headphones, unattached

So what makes wireless headphones so special anyway? And how do you determine the best wireless headphones among a lot of applicants?

Easy. Test with dozens of wireless headphones and stack them one against the other, mono-to-mono. (Well, stereo-to-stereo in this case)

We've done this countless times over the years and since then we've acquired a little bit of hearing to select certain tonal characteristics. With these particular skills and an eye for value, we try to choose the best headphones that money could buy.

So, looking for finally getting rid of the rope? These are the top 10 wireless headsets ordered by their price / performance ratio.

Excellent noise cancellation

Great sound sound

30 hour battery life

The hinges are fragile

The Sony WH-1000XM2 are a excellent review of a pair of already great wireless headphones: they sound great, they handle dexterity noiselessly and cost as much as a pair of Bose QC35. They could have a slightly shorter battery life than other headphones on our list, but the Sony WH-1000XM2 outperforms them all in terms of performance and feature set.

Not only do they provide amazing noise cancellation, but they have three tricks that few other wireless headphones have: one is an ambient noise mode that only allows medium to high frequency tones (announcements through a speaker, instance) and another is the Quick Attention mode that allows you to enter all the external noise without removing the headphones. (The latter is perfect when you give a drink order on an airplane or talk to a co-worker for a brief moment before diving back into your work.) The last trick Sony has up his sleeve is the LDAC codec. Along with the widely adopted aptX HD standard, LDAC allows high-resolution audio playback with the 1000XM2.

With an excellent sound and full of functions, the Sony WH-1000XM2 is an excellent travel companion and excellent wireless headphones.

The AKG N60NC wireless sound sounds like a pair of headphones that should be much more expensive than they are.

At its mid-price point, the headphones offer excellent value for money, with great sound quality and a level of performance noise cancellation that is at the height of the much more premium entries on this list.

Our biggest problem with these headphones is the fact that they are on the ear instead of the ear, which means we found that they felt uncomfortable for longer periods.

In spite of everything, the benefit of this is that it is a pair of fantastically compact headphones, and if you are willing to make concessions, these are excellent for the price.
