OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has flocked to the company's forums to offer fans some confidence in the upcoming OnePlus 6 and its controversial notched display. In response to a strong and passionate negative reaction, Lau says that OnePlus will now offer the option to darken the sides of the screen around the notch and thus hide it, much as Huawei has done with the P20. I have been using this last phone since its announcement in Paris last week, and I have never felt the need to hide its level, but it is good to have the option for people who suffer allergies to the notch.
The OnePlus 6 will get the notch hiding setting in a software update after the launch, Lau says, again signaling the imminent arrival of your company's next flagship phone. OnePlus has traditionally launched its phones in June, but due to discussions prior to its launch, it is likely that we can expect the OnePlus 6 much sooner than usual.
Lau also revealed some of the main features of OnePlus 6, disclosing in another forum post that the next phone will have up to 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor.
